Playing an 18-hole round of golf is no joke. Whether you’re walking the course or riding in a golf cart, it takes a lot of energy to sink birdies. Not to mention that you and your golf buddies have worked up an appetite. If you’ve never eaten at the clubhouse, then you are missing out! Here are some of our favorite bites to eat at the clubhouse.
Hot Dog
Is it a sandwich, is it a hot dog, who knows? But what we can tell you that hot dogs are tasty. Now, you might be thinking, “I’ve had a hot dog before, what makes a clubhouse dog special?” Clubhouse dogs are typically cooked on the grill and have plenty of toppings to enhance the experience. These aren’t the typical “water dogs” that have been sitting in boiled water for hours. It’ll be hot, fresh, and slightly charred to give it the cooked on the grill flavor.
Cheeseburger
A seasoned bun, all-beef patties, lettuce, tomato, and topped with melting cheese are all the key ingredients for a cheeseburger. Tasty and filling, there is nothing quite like a good burger. The great thing about them is that nearly every golf clubhouse can cook them. One of the best things about a cheeseburger is the toppings. Typically, you can add onions, mayo, mushrooms, and bacon to give you the option on how you want to eat your cheeseburger. And we can’t forget our favorite burger side, fries. But don’t worry, most places have onion rings or sweet potato fries to change things up.
Philly Cheesesteak
Now if you are really hungry, you can always step up to the challenge of devouring a Philly cheesesteak. Typically served on a hoagie roll, Philly cheesesteaks include steak, peppers, onions, and cheese of course. Depending on the clubhouse, they may not make an authentic cheesesteak like famous eatery’s Geno’s or Pat’s in Philadelphia. However, subbing cheese wiz for melted provolone is typically better. You might be in a food coma after you finish, but take it from experience, you’ll be thankful you did.
Chicken Wings
The time-honored classic, chicken wings. Great as a meal or to snack on, chicken wings are great after playing a round of golf. Whether you like flats or drums, you can get wings in a variety of sauces. Barbeque, buffalo style, and garlic parmesan are among the more popular flavors (not a wrong choice either way). Served with wings are your choice of ranch or blue cheese. Even though wings can be messy to eat, they are one of the best foods to go along with an ice-cold beer. Depending on how you eat, ask for extra moist towelettes.
Nachos
Sometimes you are just looking for that perfect food to snack on with your buddies. That’s where nachos come in. Often in the appetizer section, they are a great choice to share and are delicious. Loaded with toppings (protein, sour cream, salsa, jalapeños) you’re almost guaranteed full flavor every bite. A pro tip for the golfers out there, ask the clubhouse if they can layer the nachos. This way you’re able to get all the toppings at the bottom of the pile.
These are just some of the foods available at the golf course. Some courses have a full dinner menu with steak and lobster, but sometimes you just want a cold one with some bar food favorites. It’s one of the best ways to treat yourself if you win at a game of skins or to make up for hitting a snowmen score during the day. Whatever you end up ordering, you won’t be disappointed.
